Like most other bookworms, great books make their way onto my “things I’m thankful for” list every year. It’s hard to choose favorites, but I went ahead and picked five books I read in 2015 and am thankful for.
(These are in no particular order. Putting them in order would take a very long time to do.)
- The Big Over Easy, by Jasper Fforde:
I’d never heard of the author before I got a chance to talk to him at a conference in October (post coming on that conference…). He was really nice and the premises he said he went off of in his books sounded cool, (Nursery Crimes) so I got a few from the library. This one takes the cake for the most unpredictable book I’ve ever read. In an extremely good way. I laughed a lot of times as well and the book was very clever in its interweaving of nursery rhymes and fairy tale characters.
One gripe was that the language wasn’t… the cleanest? I wouldn’t hand it to my little siblings without a second thought. But I enjoyed it immensely.
- Storybound, by Marissa Burt:
The current family read aloud and an utterly awesome story. Seriously, the concepts… and the plot twists… and the characters… it’s just great. It’s also a colossal distraction from writing, but I’m managing. 😉
- Structuring Your Novel, by K.M. Weiland:
This book helped me immensely with the outlining of my current WIP. Lots of great stuff in here and I’ll definitely be using it again for future books. 🙂
- The Books of the Infinite, by R.J. Larson:
I did a review on these ones. It’s always awesome to find another good christian series. And these ones were very good.
- The Peleg Chronicles, by Matthew Christian Harding:
Still my favorite series. It’s funny, strong christian and the characters are really diverse and awesome. 🙂 I still love it to bits and am waiting… trying not to be too impatient… for the next book.
There’s also a book plan of mine in the works that’s set in the same post-babel dispersion world…
